Demi Moore reveals how she helps daughters cope with Bruce Willis’ dementia diagnosis

Demi Moore explains how she helps her three daughters cope with their father Bruce Willis’ FTD diagnosis.

The 61-year-old actress was previously married to fellow Hollywood star Bruce, with whom she had three children: Rumer (36), Scout (33), and Tallulah (30).

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress shared advise for her children on connecting with their father, who has a condition that affects his cognitive ability.

‘What I tell my kids is to meet them where they are. “You don’t hold on to who they were or what you want them to be, but who they are right now,” she said.

Moore went on to say, “And from that, there is such beauty, joy, love, and sweetness.” When I’m in Los Angeles, I visit every week, and I value the time we all spend together.

The Moonlighting star, 69, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) a little over two years ago.

Moore’s daughter, Tallulah, recently stated that she and her family have found it’really meaningful’ to use their public platforms to’spread awareness’ about the degenerative ailment.

She explained, ‘What’s going on with my father is that he has a very aggressive cognitive condition, a rare kind of dementia.

‘I believe there are two aspects to being open. On the one hand, it defines us as a family, but it is also critical to raise awareness of FTD, since we were unaware. And to advance and use, it’s like a larger version of what I’m attempting to accomplish.

‘If we can use something we’re struggling with as a family and individually to help others, to turn it around, and to create something truly beautiful out of it, that’s incredibly special for us.’

‘Becoming like an archeologist to my father’s goods, universe, and tiny treasures has been a really lovely way for me to heal through this.’

Tallulah said during her visit on The Drew Barrymore Show in November, ‘I see love when I’m with him, and it’s my dad, and he loves me, which is pretty special.’

In 2022, Bruce’s family, including his current wife Emma Heming Willis and their children Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 9, announced his retirement from acting due to speech and language disorder aphasia. His dementia diagnosis was confirmed the following year.

‘As Bruce’s situation worsens, we hope that any media attention can be directed toward shedding light on this disease, which requires considerably more awareness and research,’ the family stated.

Bruce has always believed in utilizing his voice to help people and raise awareness about vital topics, both publicly and personally.

‘We believe in our hearts that, if he could today, he would want to respond by bringing global attention and a sense of connection with those who are also coping with this horrible condition and how it affects so many people and their families.

According to the Mayo Clinic, aphasia is a disorder that impairs communication skills, including speaking, writing, and comprehension.
