Bruce Willis’ family feeling ‘sadness’ on first birthday since dementia diagnosis

On the actor’s first birthday since learning of his diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia, Bruce Willis’ family is experiencing “grief and sadness.”

In celebration of her husband’s 68th birthday, Emma Heming Willis shared an emotional Instagram reel on Sunday.

She partially annotated the photo, saying, “The bright side or the upside is that I’m so fortunate to feel your warmth and love that is directed to my husband and our family.”

“All I can say is thank you after seeing your words and the experiences you share. Knowing that I see you and completely understand your journey is helpful to me, and I hope it does the same for you in some tiny way 💞.

Emma, 44, revealed in the video that she “started the morning by crying,” as evidenced by her “swollen eyes” and “snotty” nose.

“I simply believe it’s critical that you consider all relevant aspects of this. People always say to me, “Oh, you’re so strong,” or I get this message. I’m not sure how you manage. She acknowledged, “I’m not given a choice,” adding that she’s putting on her “big girl pants” to be resilient for her and Bruce’s two young children, Evelyn, age eight, and Mabel, age ten.

“I do experience sadness and grief on a daily basis, and today, his birthday, I’m feeling particularly affected.”

Emma continued by saying that creating the birthday tribute film for Bruce, who also has kids with his ex-wife Demi Moore, Rumer, 34, Scout, 31, and Tallulah Willis, 29, felt “like a knife” in her heart.

She continued, reminding herself, “Don’t cry, Emma. I do it for you just as much as I do for myself because I know how much you love my husband.”

Scout acknowledged in her own post that Sunday’s celebration of her father’s birthday was emotional.

“To my best friend, the Pisces king, the master of duality, the action hero icon, and the kind girl dad, happy birthday. She commented on Instagram, “What a blessing it is to have this man as my father and to learn so much about life, joy, mischief, and art from him.”

“Today is not necessarily an easy day because it is filled with such intense love, and our grief truly demonstrates how deeply we love someone.” I’m making an effort to spend today with both of them,” she added.

“Grief is a price I’ll always pay to know what it is to feel such love. I’m sending my love to anyone who has ever felt the capacity stretched by the enormity of love and humanness of grief. I love you.”

Tallulah also gushed about her “numero uno Bruno” on his birthday on Instagram.

She went on, “I’m feeling overwhelmed by all the positive vibes and love coming this Willis way.” “What a pleasure—I love him and he loves me!”

As Page Six previously reported, Bruce’s family announced the actor was diagnosed with dementia in February – nearly one year after his battle with aphasia was revealed.

In a statement posted on the website of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, the family stated, “Although this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”

“FTD is a terrible illness that can affect anyone and that many of us have never heard of. FTD is the most frequent type of dementia in those under 60, and since it can take years to receive a diagnosis, it is probably far more widespread than we realize.

According to the statement, if the “Die Hard” actor “could” react to the issue, he would wish to provide “global attention and connectedness” to those afflicted by the “debilitating disease.”

The statement went on to say, “At this time, there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead.”

“We hope that any media attention can be directed toward raising awareness of this disease, which requires much more research and awareness, as Bruce’s condition worsens.”
