During a visit to her brother in New York with her granddaughter, Jennifer, they decided to secure tickets for Taylor’s European tour. Despite the time difference, they eagerly stayed online for the ticket release. Nancy dozed off before the tickets were confirmed, but at 3 a.m., Jennifer woke her with the thrilling news: “Granny, Granny—I got the tickets!” They celebrated their luck, looking forward to the concert on May 9, 2024.

Nancy’s admiration for Taylor began in 2009 after watching the MTV Video Music Awards, where Kanye West interrupted Taylor’s speech. Initially confused by the incident, Nancy soon felt sympathy for the young artist. Her respect deepened as she admired Taylor’s grace under pressure and realized that the singer was from Reading, Pennsylvania, a place close to Nancy’s heart. Nancy and her husband, Asa, 93, had lived in Reading during the 1960s, raising their five sons there, making the connection even more personal.

Inspired by Taylor’s family values and the involvement of her parents in her career, Nancy found even more reasons to admire her. With 12 grandchildren—six of whom are girls—Nancy loved how Taylor’s success resonated with the young women in her family.

Nancy, who has owned a travel agency for almost 50 years, didn’t hesitate when Jennifer asked if she wanted to see Taylor in Paris. Having traveled extensively, she welcomed the chance to visit Europe again. Although she has yet to explore the Arctic, Antarctic, and parts of South America, Nancy shows no signs of slowing down as she nears 90.

To make the most of the trip, Nancy planned a week-long vacation to Amsterdam and Paris, staying in five-star hotels at $2,000 per night. Jennifer, 32, joined her for the journey, along with another granddaughter, Brianna Pattison, 36, and her daughter-in-law, Kay Strong, 66.

I'm 89 and flew 5,000 miles to see Taylor Swift in Paris. I treated myself to a $2K per night hotel and it was worth every penny.

The concert was an unforgettable experience. Taylor performed tirelessly from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., complete with costume changes and high boots. Nancy’s favorite songs, “The Man” and “Shake It Off,” had her up and dancing with so much excitement that she worried she might lose her balance.
