Taylor Swift returned to town to watch the Kansas City Chiefs maintain their undefeated record in the NFL on Monday night.
Though she missed Travis Kelce’s 35th birthday celebration during the weekend at the second annual Kelce Car Jam charity event, she was present at Arrowhead Stadium as the Chiefs triumphed over the New Orleans Saints with a score of 26-13, improving their record to 5-0.
While Kelce wasn’t the standout player that night—running back Kareem Hunt rushed for 102 yards and scored a touchdown, and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster amassed 130 yards—the veteran tight end showed signs of his former self after a slow start, recording 70 yards on nine receptions as Patrick Mahomes’ primary target.
Kelce also played a crucial role in Xavier Worthy’s touchdown by taking a direct snap in a play designed by Andy Reid before handing it off to the fast wide receiver. Overall, it was a very successful evening for the Chiefs, who will have a week off before facing the San Francisco 49ers on October 20.
Swift was seated in Kelce’s box at Arrowhead Stadium and shared her thoughts with Chariah Gordon, the partner of Kelce’s teammate Mecole Hardman, afterward. In a video posted on Gordon’s Instagram story, she asked, “How do you feel after this win?”
Swift responded, “No, it’s important that you answer the question this time,” to which Gordon replied, “I think we feel really good about this week; we are 5-0.” Swift then chimed in, “Going into a bye week,” and agreed with Gordon by concluding, “Perfect is the word!”
The spotlight after the game shifted to Smith-Schuster and Hunt—two players who didn’t start the season with the Chiefs but were re-signed by Reid. Hunt, who led the league in rushing as a rookie in 2017, and Smith-Schuster, who contributed to their Super Bowl victory in 2022 before moving to the New England Patriots, played significant roles in the game.
Mahomes was highly complimentary of Smith-Schuster following the game, even likening him to Kelce. “Trav is truly one of a kind, but [Smith-Schuster] has a great understanding of the play’s overall concept and knows how to find open spots,” Mahomes stated. “He did an excellent job today of beating man coverage and locating windows in zone coverage for big catches.”
He further remarked, “This reflects not only the hard work of the players but also coach Reid’s ability to recognize their skill sets and position them effectively. Kareem runs incredibly hard.
“He maximizes every yard, catches the ball, and does whatever is necessary to help us win. [Smith-Schuster] integrates well into this offense and performed wonderfully today. It was exciting to see those guys in action.”
