Serena Williams Announces Rеtirеme𝚗t from Tennis Post-US Open to Pursuе Second Baby with Billio𝚗airе Husband: ‘It’s a Tough Dеcisio𝚗, but I’m Prеpared for What Comes Next’

Serena Williams, aged 40, plans to step away from tennis after the upcoming US Open, though she hesitates to use the term ‘retirement.’

“In the latest issue of Vogue, Williams expressed her discomfort with the word ‘retirement,’ deeming it outdated. She views this transition more as an evolution, shifting focus towards her business ventures and family,” the article states.

In addition to her family, Serena Williams is also stepping away to pay more attention to her many business interests

Williams emphasized her desire to spend more time with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and their five-year-old daughter, Olympia. She also revealed their hopes for another child, noting recent encouraging news from her doctor regarding family planning.

Her business interests include Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm that raised $111 million last March, and ownership stakes in the Miami Dolphins and a National Womеn’s Soccer League team. Additionally, she runs her sustainable clothing line, S by Serena, and holds numerous endorsement deals with brands like Aston Martin and Pepsi.

Now 40, Serena has spent much of the past few seasons recovering from injuries as she's plummeted in the world rankings

While Williams acknowledges the inevitability of this decision, particularly since her last major singles title at the 2017 Australian Open, she remаins determined to compete at the US Open later this month and the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

She concluded by expressing gratitude to her fans, admitting she’ll miss the competitive aspect of tennis, but isn’t seeking a traditional farewell tour.

The announcement comes, strangely enough, after her first win in 430 days. 'I'm just happy to get a win,' Williams said Monday after beating Nuria Parrizas-Diaz 6-3, 6-4 at the women's National Bank Open in Toronto. 'It's been a very long time, I forgot what that felt like'
