Alicia Keys’s visit to Mexico City last week was a whirlwind experience. Last Wednesday, the singer kicked off her eventful stay in the Mexican capital with her final performance on her Latin American tour at the Auditorio Nacional. “I’ve been all over Latin America,” Keys shared. “I just finished performing in Mexico City and Guadalajara.” To keep the momentum going, Keys also attended Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Resort 2024 collection for Dior. “Being here for Dior and Maria Grazia is really awesome,” Keys noted. “It was the perfect way to conclude such an incredible tour.”
These events were particularly special for Keys as it was her first time in Mexico City. Along with enjoying the delicious food and stunning architecture, the star was instantly captivated by the city’s people. “I really love the people, the energy, the love,” Keys said. “The art is incredible.” She was especially struck by the city’s vastness. “Culturally, it’s so rich and it’s such a big city—much bigger than you might expect,” she observed. “There’s the big city element, and then you can drive an hour away and visit the pyramids.”
For the Dior show, Keys chose a breezy, summery outfit from the brand that highlighted a crop top—a style that she feels represents her personal fashion sense. “I always like to look like myself,” Keys said. “I loved my outfit: it felt playful—casual, but fun. I loved the crop top and the way it tied in the back. The beautiful elephants and the material of the piece were also standouts.” She completed the look with a silver choker necklace and stylish sunglasses. “I loved the whole vibe,” Keys added.
Watching the runway show from the front row, Keys described it as an “emotional” experience. “The inspiration drawn from Mexican culture was honored in such a beautiful way, with all the hairstyles, the faces of the women, and the diversity of the models,” Keys reflected. “I thought that was really powerful.” Her favorite moment was the impactful statement made during the finale when Chiuri presented white dresses with red embroidery that highlighted the issue of missing or murdered Indigenous women. “The statement at the end of the show with the women in white was tremendous,” Keys said. “Learning about how many Mexican women go missing, and creating a special moment in the show to raise awareness of that, was really powerful. It shows how art, fashion, and activism can come together to open people’s minds to what’s happening.”
Now that her Mexico City adventure is over, Keys plans to rest for a bit. But in June, she’ll be back to work with her “Keys to the Summer” tour, which kicks off on June 28th in the U.S. “It’s going to be incredible,” Keys said. “It’s my first 360-degree show ever! The stage will be right in the middle of the entire arena. It’s going to be one of the most beautiful, special things I’ve ever done.” We can’t wait.
