The tennis star made history by being awarded the fashion icon honor at the CFDA Fashion Awards, making her the inaugural athlete to receive this prestigious accolade. Stepping onto the red carpet at the American Museum of Natural History, Williams donned a specially crafted black sequin dress designed by CFDA Chairman Thom Browne. The bespoke creation featured striking black sleeves and a flowing train. Elevating her ensemble with elegance, she adorned herself with David Yurman jewelry, showcasing the brand’s “Fleur de Mer” pavé diamond and pearl as well as pavé cable drop earrings.

Serena Williams named Fashion Icon by CFDA

In a demonstration of her style and sophistication, Williams arrived at the CFDA Awards in a custom-wrapped Lincoln Navigator SUV, perfectly complementing her ensemble. This recognition places her among esteemed predecessors, including Zendaya, Naomi Campbell, Beyoncé, and Rihanna, who have also received the CFDA Fashion Awards in the past.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve used fashion as an outlet to express myself — fashion gave me the confidence to step on the court and own who I was, and where I knew I was going,” Williams told the CFDA prior to the award show.
