A lot has changed since 2002—groceries cost more, smartphones are ubiquitous, and there have been three sequels to The Matrix. Yet one thing remаins constant: Today’s World Cafe guests have remained friends.
Bret Domrose, Rоb Mailhouse, and Keanu Reeves, who make up the alternative rock band Dogstar, first emerged in the mid-’90s. They toured extensively, opening for acts like Bon Jovi and performing at festivals such as Glastonbury, all while Reeves was rising to movie stardom.
Though Dogstar officially “broke up” in 2002 after releasing their aptly titled album Happy Ending, this session reveals that they never truly disbanded. They share how making a new album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, felt incredibly natural, even after two decades and significant changes in the world and their personal lives.
This episode of World Cafe was produced and edited by Kimberly Junod, with Miguel Perez creating the web story. Engineering was handled by Chris Williams, while Chelsea Johnson managed programming and booking, and Will Loftus served as line producer.
