Keanu Reeves has revealed that he did not contribute to writing his new novel, admitting that he was overwhelmed with emotion when he read the completed draft for the first time.
The actor, 59, collaborated with British ‘weird fiction’ author China Miéville on The Book of Elsewhere, a novel inspired by Reeves’ BRZRKR comic series.
In an interview with The Guardian, Reeves explained his decision to have Miéville handle the writing: “I didn’t want to write the book. I wantеd another creator to take that journey. So, ultimately, China has written the novel. I didn’t write any of the novel.”
Released on July 23, the book follows an immortal warrior’s quest to understand his own immortality. Reeves shared that he was moved to tears when he first read the manuscript, exclaiming his joy and surprise at the experience.
The novel emerged from a collaboration that began in Berlin in 2021, with several Zoom meetings between the two creators. Keanu expressed his delight with the final result, noting the profound emotional impact it had on him.
The Book of Elsewhere aligns with Miéville’s unique style of ‘new weird fiction,’ complementing the themes of Reeves’ BRZRKR comics.
