Having not given much thought to Keanu Reeves since my teenage poster days, I recently found myself deep in discussions on Twitter about his choice of girlfriend.

When I first saw the headline “Keanu Reeves, 55, Goes Public with His First Girlfriend in DECADES,” I assumed he would be with a 25-year-old starlet. After all, Hollywood mеn are known for dating much younger womеn, right?

But when I clicked through to the photos of the couple at an event, I was surprised to see an elegant, silver-haired woman who looked beautiful, though not particularly young.

I’ll admit, I was taken aback. And I wasn’t alone. It turns out many people were surprised too. On Twitter, some compared Keanu’s 46-year-old girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, to actress Helen Mirren, who is 74. Others were less kind, with some harshly commenting that she looked like a granny, even going so far as to post: “Neo from Matrix, pulled a 3.” It was telling that this critic’s Twitter profile picture was just an emoji, hinting at their own lack of attractiveness.

On the flip side, Keanu’s fans praised him for choosing an “age-appropriate” partner, despite her still being nine years younger than him.

In contrast, Leonardo DiCaprio, 44, faced criticism and adulation when he was seen with 22-year-old Camila Morrone. Some fans thought it made him even “hotter” or saw it as a step toward “world peace,” while others called him “brave.” Brave? We might need to reassess our standards.

Why is it considered brave for a 55-year-old man to date a 46-year-old woman? Actress Whitney Cummings captured the issue perfectly: “In Hollywood, if you’re not 24, you might as well be 70.”

Sadly, she’s right. I was surprised to see Keanu — who I still picture as the 30-year-old Jack from “Speed” — dating a mature woman.
