On Monday’s episode of Ellen, Serena Williams opened up about her approach to introducing her four-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., to tennis. Despite Olympia showing some potential, Williams emphasized that she isn’t pushing her daughter too hard at this young age.
Williams, 40, shared her affection for Olympia and acknowledged her child’s interest in tennis, but she’s keeping things light for now. She mentioned that Olympia’s primary passion lies in playing princess games, and tennis is just a small part of her life at the moment.
When Ellen DeGeneres asked about the tennis coaching Olympia is receiving, Williams revealed that she hired a private coach but chose not to disclоse her identity to the coach. Williams admitted that she lacks the patience to teach tennis herself and was keen on finding a qualified instructor for her daughter.
Williams also took the opportunity to reflect on the influence of her own father, Richard Williams, on her and Venus’s successful tennis careers. She praised the film King Richard for its accurate portrayal of the dedication required in the sport and expressed pride in how the project turned out despite the challenges it faced during production.
