In a recent interview with Extra, actor Tom Holland announced his intention to take a break from acting following his involvement in Apple TV+’s new psychological horror series, “The Crowded Room.”
Holland cited the challenging nature of his role as Danny Sullivan, a notorious criminal with 24 different personalities, in “The Crowded Room” as the primary reason for his decision to step away from acting temporarily.
“After experiencing the intense and demanding scenes portraying Danny Sullivan, I’ve decided to take a break from filming for a year,” Holland revealed. “I’ve always embraced hard work and enjoyed it, but the pressures of filmmaking have taken a tоll on me mentally. I’ve yearned for a retreat, perhaps to Mexico, to breathe in the sea breeze and find solace.”
In a conversation with EW last month, Holland expressed gratitude for the opportunity to portray Sullivan in “The Crowded Room,” but acknowledged the role had pushed him beyond his emotional limits, causing personal turmoil.
“I deeply identified with the character both on screen and in my personal life. There were moments where I felt so overwhelmed that I considered shaving my head just to detach from the character, but the demands of our production kept me focused,” Holland shared.
Looking ahead to life post-“The Crowded Room,” Holland intends to prioritize spending time with loved ones, resting, and traveling.
“The Crowded Room,” based on the true story of Danny Sullivan’s involvement in a New York City shooting in 1979, is a gripping thriller narrated through interrogator Rya Goodwin (played by Amanda Seyfried). The series is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on June 9.
