Director Provides Positive Update for Constantine 2
Constantine 2 has received encouraging news from its director. The sequel to the DC film will not be part of James Gunn’s DC Universe. Keanu Reeves, who has been eager to reprise his role as John Constantine since the original film’s release in 2005, is finally set to return. Following years of behind-the-scenes efforts, Reeves is back to lead one of DC’s new Elseworlds projects, which operate outside the continuity of the new DCU.
The increased creative freedom associated with Constantine 2 being an Elseworlds movie is already evident. Lawrence recently confirmed that Constantine 2 will be “very rated R.” This aligns with the initial vision for the original Constantine, which was made under Warner Bros.’ PG-13 restrictions, only to end up with an R rating due to its tone. Now, without interference from DC Studios, Lawrence and his team have the liberty to fully realize their vision for a John Constantine story in Constantine 2.
