Tom Holland to Star as Fred Astaire in Upcoming Biopic

LONDON (AP) – Tom Holland is swapping his Spidey suit for tap shoes as he gears up to play Fred Astaire in an upcoming biographical film. The “Spider-Man” actor confirmed the news to The Associated Press on Sunday at a London event.

“Oh, I am playing Fred Astaire,” Holland said. “Yeah, I am.”

Although producer Amy Pascal had previously expressed her desire for Holland to portray Astaire, this marks the first time Holland has publicly acknowledged his involvement in the project.

Despite Holland’s extensive dance background, which includes starring as Billy Elliot in “Billy Elliott: The Musical” from 2008 to 2010, his dance skills haven’t been showcased in his superhero roles.

Holland mentioned that he still needs to review the Astaire script, which he received only a week ago.Spider-Man's Tom Holland confirms he'll play iconic dancer

“I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me,” Holland explained. “Amy Pascal has the script. She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath, and we had a lovely FaceTime.”

Before stepping into Astaire’s shoes, Holland will release another “Spider-Man” film, “No Way Home,” which hits theaters on December 17. The future of his role as Peter Parker remɑins uncertain.

“I love this character more than anything. This character has changed my life. My relationship with my fans is wonderful, and I couldn’t ask for more,” Holland said.

“But I want to do what’s best for the character. If it’s time for me to step down and let the next person take over, I’ll do so proudly. I’d love to see a more diverse Spider-Man universe, which would be really exciting. If I could be like Iron Man to the next young Spider-Man or Spider-Woman, that would be great. Right now, my focus is on the character and what’s best for Peter Parker,” he added.
