Tom Holland took advantage of a day off from his role as Romeo Montague in the West End’s production of Romeo and Juliet by hitting the golf course on Wednesday. The 27-year-old actor participated in a charity golf event organized by Tottenham Hotspur footballer James Maddison to raise funds for Noah’s Ark Hospice.
Last year’s inaugural event raised £80,000 for Sophie’s Sparkle Fund, and organizers hoped for another successful year with a roster of celebrities including Michael McIntyre and footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The fundraiser featured an 18-hole pro-am style tournament, with proceeds benefiting Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, which supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Tom’s appearance at the charity event came after an estimated 500 fans gathered outside the Duke of York theatre to catch a glimpse of him after his performance in Romeo and Juliet. Despite requests for no autographs or selfies, Tom greeted fans by waving as they snapped photos and videos.
The enthusiastic crowds have been gathering outside the theatre since the production’s opening night, with some fans traveling long distances just for a chance to see Tom. Tickets for the play, which sold out within two hours, are now being resold for around £300 each, reflecting the immense demand to see the Spider-Man star on stage.
