As a star of blockbuster films, Tom Holland is well accustomed to large crowds of adoring fans.

The Spider-Man actor’s popularity has clearly shifted from Hollywood to the West End, as approximately 500 people gathered on Martin’s Lane last night to catch a glimpse of him performing in the new Һit, Romeo and Juliet.

Fans outside the Duke of York Theatre were informed that there would be ‘no autographs or selfies’ with the 27-year-old star as he navigated the stage door.

Instead of signing autographs, Tom chose to stand and wave to his fans, allowing them to capture important pictures and footage for social media.

Photos show rows of predominantly young female fans aiming their smartphones at the Spider-Man actor.

A security guard informed the fans behind metal railings, “There will be no signings or selfies. And please, whatever you do, don’t chase the car.”

One theater-goer remarked that they had “never seen anything like it,” according to the Telegraph.

Romeo and Juliet will run at the Duke of York's Theatre until August 3

The adoring crowds have been gathering outside the theater since the production’s opening night last Friday.

Many didn’t even have tickets for the performance, which has received mixed reviews from critics, but were simply waiting for a brief look at the Spider-Man star.

On Friday, Holland waved and thanked onlookers as he exited his car to cheers and screams.

Among those gathered were Marie, 18, and her friend Lila, 19, who took a nine-hour coach from Paris earlier this week.

The pair booked a hotel for three nights and have queued outside the theater every day just to see the actor.

Marie told MailOnline, “Yesterday we saw him, just his back, but we came to see him again today.”

“When we see him I don’t think we’ll be able to talk to him because he’s too far away and he runs into the theater, but as long as we get to see him we are happy.”

However, TC, a 26-year-old event planner, waited an hour to watch Holland rush into the theater and was ready to watch the performance from the third row of the stalls.

She said, “It’s just exciting. I love theater and Tom Holland, so this is my dream. I got the ticket on presale for £95. I had my work phone, laptop, personal phone, and as many tabs open as I could.”

In February, more than 60,000 eager fans, including TC, scrambled to buy tickets for Holland’s West End run, selling out in two hours.

Some compared the strеss of securing tickets to the frenzy of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, which has brought in $1.04 billiоn with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates.

Tickets for Romeo and Juliet are now being resold for around £300 each.
