In the newest installment of the John Wick franchise, titled “Parabellum,” which hit theaters recently, Keanu Reeves takes on the role of the resourceful hitman navigating the streets of Brooklyn on horseback in a gripping chase scene. As he races through the urban landscape of 86th Street and 19th Avenue in Bensonhurst, with the elevated D train tracks overhead, Reeves brandishes a gᴜn while being pursued by two motorcycle riders, intensifying the suspense.

This meticulously planned sequence, conceptualized by director Chad Stahelski, was authentically filmed at the actual Brooklyn intersection, adding to the realism of the scene. Reeves, who happens to be an experienced equestrian, proved to be a valuable asset for this demanding sequence, showcasing his riding skills amidst the chaotic action.

To bring this thrilling horseback chase to life, stunt coordinator Jonathan “JoJo” Eusebio enlisted the expertise of Tad Griffith, a seasoned Hollywood horse master known for his work in various films. Working with at least four horses, Griffith and Eusebio carefully choreographed the scene, which also includes a segment set in a stable where Wick strategically uses the horses against his adversaries.

Despite the month-long preparation and multiple practice sessions for Reeves, acclimating the California-based horses to the bustling sounds of New York posed a significant challenge. For safety measures, a specially designed “chariot” was positioned off-frame to catch Reeves in case of any mishap or if the horse got spooked, ensuring both the actor’s well-being and the fluidity of the action.

Filming this adrenaline-pumping sequence over four nights presented its own set of challenges, with the vibrant and ever-busy backdrop of New York adding to the complexity of the shoot. However, the result is a visually stunning and thrilling action sequence that further solidifies Keanu Reeves’s status as an action superstar.
