Will Smith couldn’t resist sharing a comparative photo with his 50 million followers, capturing him and his son Trey Smith, who turned 28 on Wednesday, the 11th. In the image, the star of classics like “Men in Black” and “The Pursuit of Happyness” is seen recreating a pose with his eldest son.
“What has six legs and turns 28? One of my favorite people in the world. On a chair. Love you, T-Ball. Happy birthday,” the actor quipped, humorously combining the legs of the chair and his son.
Trey, whose full name is Willard Smith III, got the nickname “Trey” due to the “third” in his name. He is the product of Will’s marriage to Sheree Zampino, which ended in 1995. Will Smith also has two other children, Jaden, 22, and Willow, 20, from his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith.
Many people might not have known that the actor had another son besides Jaden and Willow. Trey appeared in his father’s music video for “Just the Two of Us,” recorded in 1998. He also acted in two episodes of the sitcom “All of Us,” appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and participated in the TV special “David Blaine: Real or Magic.”
Today, the family is very close-knit, but it wasn’t always this way. According to international media, Trey “felt betrayed and abandoned” for years. In 2018, Will became very emotional while sharing a video on Instagram during a vacation with his eldest son in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
In the video, the actor talked about the years he spent more distanced from Trey and wrote in the caption, “It hasn’t always been like this between Trey & I. We struggled for years after my divorce from his mother. He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a wild blessing to recover & restore a loving relationship with my beautiful son.”
“You know what, dad? I just realized you’re not just my dad. I’m pretty sure you’re my best friend,” Trey responded.
A year later, Smith spoke more about their relationship during a show, commenting that Trey was still healing and overcoming past issues.
“Really, over the last two years, there’s been enough wisdom and emotional development to be able to lovingly address the issues,” he said.
Now, Trey has a great relationship with his father and often fills his social media with photos alongside him. He also frequently shares pictures with his siblings and gets along very well with his stepmother.
Professionally, Trey works as a DJ under the name AcE and has released a song with Willow and Jaden called “Find You Somewhere.” He also produced a track for his younger sister titled “Why Don’t You Cry.”
