Keanu Reeves’ next potential project is a social satire.
The 59-year-old actor, who will voice Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is considering Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s new film, The Entertainment System is Down.
According to Variety, the MTV Movie Award winner is expected to join an international cast for this upcoming dark comedy from the creator of Triangle of Sadness, which featured Wооdy Harrelson and Charlbi Dean and won the Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Although Reeves’ role is yet to be disclosed, Östlund, 50, has just finished the script.
The project is set on a long-haul flight where the in-flight entertainment system fails, creating a “study of how human beings interact in this little laboratory that is a plane,” as Östlund described in a 2023 interview. He aims for the film to prоvоke the largest walkout in Cannes history.
Reeves isn’t abandoning his action-hero image. He will reprise his role as John Wick in the Ballerina spin-off, starring Ana De Armas, scheduled for release on June 6, 2025. Additionally, he has finished work on the comedy Good Fortune with Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, and signed on for BRZRKR, where he will play an immortal warrior named Berzerker and co-write the script with Matt Kindt and Mattson Tomlin.
