Alicia Keys, a multifaceted recording artist, activist, wife, and mother, was among the notable attendees at The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural Empowerment in Entertainment gala in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 38-year-old singer had the honor of presenting the Empowerment Award to Oprah Winfrey.
Keys graced the event in a striking Marc Jacobs black and white striped gown featuring a turtleneck, long sleeves, and a small train, with her hair styled in a long braid. She posed for photos on the white carpet alongside Oprah, who dazzled in a gold woolen dress paired with shiny gold heels, matching spectacles, hoop pendant earrings, and several bangles.
During the gala, Keys delivered a heartfelt speech before presenting the award, recognizing individuals who have created opportunities for people of color, womеn, LGBTQ community members, and other emerging voices in the industry. She praised Oprah as “a role model” and “a guiding light,” highlighting Oprah’s media career and philanthropy, which includes over $400 million in donations to various causes. Keys emphasized that Oprah “builds roads for others” and proves that success can coexist with helping others.
Later, Keys shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, “Beautiful vibes today!! A new day isn’t just on the horizon it is NOW!!!” and encouraged her followers to “stay on your mission.”
Keys, who is married to Swizz Beatz and shares two sons, Egypt (eight) and Genesis (four), expressed her admiration and inspiration drawn from Oprah’s example of carving one’s own path to greatness.
