Will Smith, the beloved Hollywood star, is currently in Abu Dhabi embarking on his latest thrill-seeking venture. The 50-year-old actor, who has been documenting his adventures on his YouTube series, has arrived in the UAE capital to tick off another item from his bucket list: racing at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Smith’s YouTube series features him conquering life-long fears and engaging in high-octane activities. This time, he’s set his sights on racing, and he’s not alone. His mission includes a race against one of his sons, either DJ Tre Smith or the up-and-coming rapper Jaden Smith, who was also seen sharing moments from the Yas Marina Circuit on social media.
The preparation for this adrenaline-pumping challenge is in the hands of none other than Lewis Hamilton, the recent Abu Dhabi F1 winner and the season’s champion. Hamilton, known for his prowess on the track, mentioned in his post-race conference that he had been filming with Smith just before the race, which was a departure from his usual pre-race routine. “Literally 10 minutes before I got into the car we were doing some fun filming which I never do because this is the period of time when I get ready,” Hamilton said. “So when I was going into the race I was thinking ‘Geez, I have completely changed my pattern because that was my usual relaxing period.”
Smith’s involvement in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend was extensive. He was seen donning a tracksuit and even jumped into an F1 car with Hamilton for a tour of the Mercedes garage. The duo also shared a comedic video in which Smith humorously “kidnapped” Hamilton to fulfill his wish of driving in the race.
In an interview with the F1 Channel’s Rosanna Tennant, Smith confirmed that his appearance in Abu Dhabi was part of his YouTube series. He revealed that he and Hamilton had been discussing this opportunity for years, dating back to their first meeting at the Monaco Grand Prix. “Lewis and I have been talking about this for probably like five years, since the Grand Prix in Monte Carlo. That was the first time I ever came and I’m just speechless, I love this, this is so exciting,” Smith said.
Smith’s enthusiasm for racing was palpable. “I’m doing a thing called the bucket list. I turned 50 this year and I decided I’m going to do everything I want to do. He granted the old man a wish,” he added, expressing gratitude towards Hamilton.
Throughout the racing weekend, Smith was a prominent figure at the Yas Marina Circuit. Armed with a film crew, he enjoyed unfettered access to the drivers and facilities. He even had the honor of waving the checkered flag at the end of the final race.
While details of the release date for the Abu Dhabi episode of Smith’s YouTube series are yet to be announced, fans can look forward to another thrilling installment. Smith has already released two episodes in the past two months, keeping viewers eagerly anticipating his next adventure.
