Kevin, Drew, and Jonathan Scott roll up their sleeves to transform a damaged outbuilding into a unique retreat for Kevin’s longtime friend and trainer, Boss.

Kevin Hart Honors His Loyal Trainer

Kevin Hart and his friend Ron, known as Boss, share a friendship of over 15 years. They see each other as brothers, so after Kevin’s near-fatal car аccident in 2019, Boss was there to help. As a personal trainer, Boss supported Kevin through his entire rehabilitation. To show his gratitude, Kevin teamed up with the Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, to create a fully renovated man cave for Boss.

Kevin expressed, “I had to start over. I was barely walking. After my аccident, I lost all my muscle mass and had to rebuild. Boss was with me every step of the way. So, I wаnted to give back in a meaningful way.”

Renovating a Multipurpose Man Cave

An unused outbuilding on Boss’s property was in dirе need of repairs. Kevin envisioned transforming it into a functional man cave for entertaining. The new space would include a living and dining area and a barbershop to honor how Kevin and Boss first met.

Due to dry rot and infestations, the crew had to strip the building down to the studs to ensure it received the necessary attention inside and out. Although it was more work than anticipated, the transformation was worth it.

The Exterior, Before and After

The exterior of the vacant outbuilding differed greatly from Boss’s beautiful main house. Kevin wаntеd an upscale, modern remodel that was also low-maintenance. The team replaced the old siding and brick fireplaces with smooth, black stucco. They upgraded the soffits with natural wood and added new windows and a large collapsible sliding glass door, transforming the area into a seamless indoor-outdoor space. The concrete patio was refinished, and the landscaping was updated with new plants and zero-maintenance faux sod.

The Pathway, Before and After

The walkway to the backyard basketball court was in disarray, with poorly maintained landscaping and exposed utility wires. The team applied black paint, added a modern wooden soffit, and refreshed the landscaping to make the pathway inviting and welcoming.

The Porch, Before and After

The dated porch, with peeling paint and an unusable outdoor fireplace, needed enhancement. The renovation included modern wooden soffits, larger black beams, eco-friendly windows with thin black frames, and a large collapsible sliding door for a cohesive indoor-outdoor environment.

The Man Cave, Before and After

The former space was uninviting, but Kevin saw its potential. The interior required a gut renovation. The new space features a kitchen, lounging area for watching movies and sports, and a large island for cooking and entertaining. High-end appliances, recessed lighting, and a marbled countertop on the kitchen island complete the transformation.

Additional Renovations

Kevin worked with Boss’s wife to incorporate a custom neon sign displaying Boss’s favorite mantra, “Just train the mind and the body will follow,” which inspires him to help others. They also created a barbershop in one room, consulting Boss’s barber to ensure it included essential features like a premium black leather swiveling chair, ample lighting, and a hair washing sink. Outside the barbershop, they installed an iconic barber pole to invite the community for services.

This project was a heartfelt way for Kevin to give back to his friend who had been there for him during a challenging time.
