Alicia Keys is poised to become the first female recording artist to host the Grammys twice, making history with her return to the role. On Thursday night, she attended the Billboard Womеn In Music event in Los Angeles, where she was honored with the Impact Award.
The 38-year-old singer-songwriter turned heads on the red carpet in a striking purple pant suit. Her outfit featured a long blazer with a single-button closure and wide-legged trousers. The suit’s sleeves had puffy accents at the elbows, and Keys wore a purple brɑ that peeked out beneath the blazer.
She accessorized with a simple diamond pendant on a delicate gold chain and diamond earrings. Her makeup was minimal, in line with her 2016 commitment to a more natural look, with just a touch of black eyeliner and mascara, along with a soft pink lip color.
Earlier this month, Keys spoke with Billboard about her plans for the Grammy Awards on January 26. She shared that she aims to create a “lovefest” to celebrate the achievements of the music industry and to ensure everyone has a great time. She mentioned looking to classic variety shows like those of Carol Burnett, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin for inspiration, with their mix of music, comedy, and art.
Keys remarked, “Nobody does that anymore. They had this cool mixture of musician and artist and comedian, so it mixed all of these worlds together… while they’re holding, like, a whiskey. I want to see how to modernize that.”
The 2020 Grammys occur the day after Keys’ 39th birthday, leading into a busy year for the artist. In addition to hosting the Grammys, Keys is set to release her seventh studio album, A.L.I.C.I.A., and publish her autobiography, “More Myself: A Journey.”
Keys is married to hip-hop artist and producer Swizz Beatz, with whom she has two sons. The couple has been together since 2010, sharing their journey in music and family.
