Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson, and Gwen Stefani will not be performing at the Lovers and Friends Festival in Las Vegas on Saturday due to hazardous weather conditions.
Less than 24 hours before the event, festival organizers announced on social media that the event was canceled because of a High Wind Warning issued by the National Weather Service. Sustained winds of 30-35 mph with gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph were forecasted for Saturday.
In a statement on Instagram, the organizers said, “Lovers & Friends Festival organizers have been monitoring the weather for several days and proactively preparing for a windy Saturday. However, the National Weather Service has now issued a High Wind Warning, including dangerous 30-35 mph sustained winds with gusts potentially more than 60 mph.” They added that the cancellation decision was made after consultation with local officials to ensure the safety of fans, artists, and staff.
The cancellation was announced with deep regret, as organizers noted that fans had traveled from all over the world for the event. They acknowledged the disappointment shared by many fans, adding that those who purchased tickets through Front Gate Tickets would receive a refund within 30 days.
Several artists shared the news on social media to inform fans of the cancellation, with Usher expressing his disappointment. He wrote on Instagram, “We were getting ready to turn up and celebrate today, but I have to follow the orders of city officials and the National Weather Service for everyone’s protection.” He added, “I’m sorry we won’t get to see each other today, but know that I am always working on something to express my heartfelt gratitude for each and every one of you who continue to support me.”
Many fans expressed frustration and outrage over the last-minute cancellation, with some noting the financial and logistical inconveniences caused by the change of plans. One fan remarked, “Booked a flight, paid for a room, took off work and secured childcare. This is fkn stᴜpιd.” Another added, “So the first year you put us out in 100 degree weather with no shade no water but the wind is when we draw the line.”
In response to the late cancellation, some fans called for a class-action lawsuit, with one saying, “Why TF were y’all posting promotions and not advising your patrons of the potential rιsk? You all need to be held accountable!”
Despite the backlash, the organizers made it clear that safety was their top priority, though the situation has left many fans and performers feeling disappointed.
