Serena Williams showcased her impeccable style as she graced the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In New York City tonight, the tennis icon made a stunning entrance at the 2024 Met Gala. Embracing the theme of “Garden of Time,” Williams opted for a literal interpretation, resembling a trophy in a shimmering metallic gown adorned with gold. The striking ensemble featured dual trains cascading to the floor, one flowing from behind her shoulder and the other emerging from a side leg slit.
Adding a touch of contrast, Williams accessorized the standout ensemble with black accents, including opera-length gloves, sheer tights, and sleek stiletto pumps.
At the previous year’s Met Gala, Williams had revealed her second pregnancy by elegantly showcasing her baby bump in a sophisticated black gown by Gucci. Since then, she has welcomed her second daughter, Adira River, with husband Alexis Ohanian.
This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same nамe, exploring the intrinsic link between time and natural beauty, offering attendees ample room for interpretation.
Moreover, “The Garden of Time” aligns with the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” featuring approximately “250 objects spanning four centuries” from the institute’s extensive collection. These pieces will be “visually united by iconography related to nature, serving as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion,” as outlined in a press release. The exhibition will incorporate various modern technologies, ranging from cutting-edge tools and artificial intelligence to traditional formats such as x-rays, video animation, light projection, and soundscapes.
