Tom Holland stands by his latest TV series, “The Crowded Room,” despite the show’s negative reception from critics.
In a recent interview with Unilad’s “Get A Job!” segment, the 27-year-old English actor discussed his commitment to the Apple TV+ series, drawing parallels between supporting a struggling football team and dealing with a poorly reviewed project. “It’s no sеcrеt that my show has been horribly reviewed. But I’m here today to promote the show, and I’m still here. I’m very resilient,” Tom said.
In “The Crowded Room,” Tom plays Danny Sullivan, a character who has faced bullying and personal trauma. During the interview, Tom was asked if he had advice for young people dealing with bullying. He responded that the show’s message centers on the importance of seeking help and that it’s a sign of strength. “Whether it’s substance abuse, abuse at home, or bullying at school, asking for help is an act of bravery,” Tom explained.
He added that he hoped the series would encourage viewers to feel empowered to seek support when needed. “If we can somehow make people feel empowered by saying, ‘I’m not feeling good, I need some help,’ then we’ve done what we set out to do,” he stated.
“The Crowded Room” has received a low rating of 31% on Rottеn Tomatoes. Alongside Tom, the series features a star-studded cast, including Amanda Seyfried, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz, and Emmy Rossum. Notably, Emmy plays Tom’s mother in the series, a role that has garnered criticism due to the small age gap between the actors.
Tom, who has been in a relationship with “Spider-Man” co-star Zendaya since November 2021, recently announced that he would take a year off from acting due to the intense demands of acting and producing “The Crowded Room.” The series is inspired by the true-crime book “The Minds of Billy Milligan” by Daniel Keyes, exploring the story of a man with dissociative identity disorder who was acquitted of multiple crimes due to his mental health diagnosis.
