Tony Awards 2024: Rachel McAdams, Alicia Keys Musical, Daniel Radcliffe, and More Receive Nominations as Hollywood Stars Shine on Broadway

Rachel McAdams, the Alicia Keys musical, Daniel Radcliffe, and others were among the nominees announced Tuesday morning for the 2024 Tony Awards.

The ceremony, set for June 16, will be hosted by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, who also hosted the 2022 and 2023 Tony Awards. Renee Elise Goldsberry and Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced some of the key categories on CBS, while the rest of the nominations were revealed later via the Tony Awards’ official YouTube channel.

“Hеll’s Kitchen,” a jukebox musical inspired by Alicia Keys’ life and featuring her songs, led the musical nominations with 13 nods, tied only with the straight play “Stereophonic.” Other best musical nominees included “Suffs,” a show about the suffragettes; “Illinoise,” a jukebox musical featuring Sufjan Stevens’ work; “The Outsider,” based on the young adult novel; and “Water for Elephants,” based on the bestselling book adapted into a movie starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

Rachel McAdams was nominated for best lead actress in a play for her role in “Mary Jane,” where she plays a mother caring for a son with cerebral palsy. She competes against Sarah Paulson for “Appropriate,” Jessica Lange for “Mother Play,” Betsy Aidem for “Prayer for the French Republic,” and Amy Ryan for “Doubt: A Parable.”

Liev Schreiber earned a nod for best lead actor in a play for his role in “Doubt: A Parable.” He faces tough competition from Jeremy Strong, William Jackson Harper, Leslie Odom Jr., and Michael Stuhlbarg. Jim Parsons is nominated for best-featured actor in a play, alongside Corey Stoll, Will Brill, Eli Gelb, and Tom Pecinka.

A new revival of the 1960s show Cabaret stars Eddie Redmayne, who is pictured at its opening night is nominated for best lead actor in a musical

Eddie Redmayne, playing the master of ceremonies in “Cabaret At The Kit Kat Club,” is nominated for best lead actor in a musical. Jonathan Groff, Dorian Harewood, and Brian d’Arcy James are among the other nominees in this category.

The best lead actress in a musical category includes Wicked alumna Eden Espinosa, Maleah Joi Moon (who portrays Alicia Keys in “Hеll’s Kitchen”), and others.

In the best original score category, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim are nominated for “Here Lies Love,” along with Adam Guettel, Shaina Taub, Will Butler, and others. Best book of a musical nominees include Kristoffer Diaz for “Hеll’s Kitchen,” Bekah Brunstetter for “The Notebook,” and Adam Rapp and Justin Levine for “The Outsider.”
