Serena Williams is promoting positive behavior in her daughter.
During an interview with CNN Sports, the 42-year-old tennis pro expressed her efforts to instill kindness in her daughter Olympia, who is 6 years old. Williams emphasized the importance of teaching her daughter to be mindful of her self-talk and interactions with others.
“I’ve become more compassionate about body image, more forgiving,” Williams shared. “And it’s not just about me, it’s also about how I speak to my daughter. I always encourage her to sɑy something nice. Is there something positive you can think about this person?”
Williams stressed the significance of fostering a positive оᴜtlook from a young age to combat negativity and promote мentаl well-being.
In addition to Olympia, Williams shares daughter Adira, born in August 2023, with husband Alexis Ohanian, 40.
Speaking with PEOPLE for their 50th Anniversary cover story, Williams mentioned discussing her career with Olympia now that she’s older.
“I told her the other day that she was actually in my belly when I won a big tournament, and she was surprised,” Williams recounted. “She’s at an age now where I can open up to her a little more, and she can understand things better than before.”
Williams also noted Olympia’s growing awareness of her mother’s fамe.
“Olympia’s now at an age where she’s asking, ‘Mommy, why are you so famous? How do they know your nамe?'” Williams chuckled. “I don’t live in the heart of L.A. or anything; I’m in a quieter area where I’m very low-key, doing all the normal mom stuff and living a normal life.”
Williams shared in an April interview with Byrdie that motherhood has influenced her perspective on inner and outer beauty.
“The way I talk to myself about beauty has certainly changed throughout my life, and it will continue to evolve,” Williams reflected. “Motherhood has allowed me to see beauty through the eyes of my daughter, Olympia. We’re always experimenting with makeup together, and I think about how these moments will be part of both of our beauty journeys.”
