In 2007, Hollywood icons Tom Cruise and Will Smith extended a glamorous welcome to David Beckham upon his arrival at LA Galaxy. The legendary actors organized a star-studded celebration reminiscent of an after-Oscars party, marking Beckham’s high-profile move from Real Madrid.
The extravagant event drew in major movie and music stars, including Jim Carrey, Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, and Stevie Wonder. Recounting the memorable incident in his Netflix documentary series, BECKHAM, the former Manchester United footballer shared that Tom Cruise, a friend, had announced, “Me and Will are going to throw you a party”.
The festivities, akin to being in Madame Tussauds with famous personalities everywhere, featured a surprise Happy Birthday performance by Stevie Wonder. David Gardner, Beckham’s friend and business partner, described the scene, and former LA Galaxy star Kyle Martino highlighted the amusing moment when Cruise recreated the Risky Business dance scene. Beckham played 124 games for LA Galaxy before leaving in 2013 for Paris Saint-Germain and ultimately founding Inter Miami in the following years.
