Billie Eilish has never shied away from experimenting with her hair, transitioning effortlessly between bleach blonde, jet black, and various shades of silver, blue, and lavender. 

One of her most iconic hairstyles was the slime green roots paired with black lengths, a look she maintained for two years after initially dyeing it in 2019.

Now, at 21 years old, the artist has revisited her signature style with a twist. She shared a photo on Instagram on Friday, revealing neon red roots with the caption “remember me?” Fans at Lollapalooza in Chicago got the first real-life glimpse of her new look when she headlined the main stage on Friday night.

When Eilish first dyed her roots bright green in 2019, it solidified her status as a cultural influencer. At that time, her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” had recently been released, and it became evident that Eilish was a unique and rare talent. Her distinctive hair set her apart, much like her resonant and ethereal music.

In 2021, she transitioned from the green style, opting for a Marilyn Monroe-inspired platinum blonde. In a yearly interview with Vanity Fair, Eilish hinted that the change was a deliberate effort to be less recognizable. 

She mentioned, “If I’m being cautious and not trying to be in everybody’s faces, that’s like I can manage my way around people without them noticing, which is cool.”

Since the end of 2021, Eilish has chosen darker, more natural shades. However, her recent return to the neon roots suggests a symbolic revisit to her origins. Speculation arises among fans about whether this signifies increased comfort with fɑme or a return to her earlier musical style. Many are also speculating that this new ‘era’ might hint at the release of a new album or an upcoming tour, but only time will reveɑl the true significance.
