American singer and actress Willow Smith is the daughter of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.

Fans are curious as to why the celebrity created headlines in July 2021 when she chose to shave her head live on stage during a concert.

Why did Willow Smith shave her hair?

Willow, 21, is well-known for her work in the entertainment sector, which includes the 2016 hit song Whip My Hair, in addition to being Will and Jada’s daughter.

She may have been swishing her hair back and forth back then, but she now has a shaved head thanks to a barber who came out and shaved her hair as she was singing the song live.

“Whip My Hair is probably my favorite song right now just because of the way it feels to sing,” Willow reportedly stated during her performance, as reported by Insider.

I am going to shave my head for the third time in my life. I usually shave my head during significant life transitions, and this is most definitely one of those occasions.”

Her album Lately I Feel Everything was out when she made her decision.

Willow originally shaved her head in 2012 while on the Whip My Hair tour.

Did Willow Smith convince her mother to shave her head?

Jada debuted a new hairdo that was inspired by her daughter in the same year that Willow debuted her shaved head.

Jada said at the time that Willow had persuaded her to do it because of her continuous battles with alopecia.

“Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed,” Jada said to Instagram.

During a Red Table Talk episode in 2018, Jada talked candidly about her “issues with hair loss” and admitted to her fans, saying, “It was terrifying when it first started.” One day I was in the shower and I was like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’ I had just handfuls of hair in my hands.

“I was actually shaking with fear—it was one of those moments in my life. That’s the reason I’ve cut and will keep cutting my hair.”

What did Chris Rock say about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair?

Comedian Chris Rock chose to make fun of Jada’s hair at the 2022 Oscars.

Will, however, did not take well to his remarks.

“Jada, I love you,” Chris joked about Jada’s hair while on stage presenting one of the awards. “GI Jane 2, I’m excited to see you,” was an allusion to Demi Moore’s 1997 hair shaving for the part.

Chris has previously gone too far in his criticism of Jada; in 2016, the actress made a joke about her choice to skip the Oscars, stating, “Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties.” I did not receive an invitation.

Later, Will Smith’s 23-year-old son Jaden Smith defended his father on Twitter, saying just, “And that’s how we do it.”
